Adopting pet rats for the first time?
I am going to the humane society to meet my potential first pet rat. He’s around 4 months old they say, and I have been reading more and more online and everywhere on pet rats, that they do better in pairs… the only siblings he has there are female. I would like to get a same sex pair because that is what is most recommended. There is another male in a different litter that I also really like. If I were to get them at the same time, and put them in a large habitat together, would there be aggression since they’re both only 4 months old? Or would it more than likely be fine and they’d end up being the best of friends? I hear rats are very social and become friends very easily.
Thank you

They would probably be fine.
99.9% they will be okay.
And kudos to you for adopting from a shelter! They make great friends!
I’ve had ratties for over 30 years, if you need any advice, e-mail me
Firstly, i just want to say..
1) WELL DONE for adopting your ratties
2) WELL DONE for doing your research and doing the right thing by your ratties (wanting to get two) often people just cluelessly get one!
I dont know about putting two males together from separate litters myself but from what iv heard, the people who take the care and time to socialise the two rats together say that they end up to be good friends:) People who dont persevere often dont get positive outcomes but you sound like you have done your research and really truely care about the rats
So im sure they will be fine, it might take a little while but im sure you will work it out
So yeah, i would get two
And good choice on choosing males, i love mine, theyre lovely and cuddly
Good luck
