Yes, I don’t know you, but I’m not judging you either. I’m glad you’ve had success, but my lack of trust isn’t based on nothing. I brought my dog in to meet the parakeet under very close supervision, to see how she’d react, and twice she has tried to snap at the bird. Could she be trained? Maybe. But one mistake and I might have a dead or injured budgie. I don’t particulary like that prospect.

You’re entitled to your opinion, you don’t know me, or vice versa so it’s not a problem:)I’ve raised many types of animals. I have an Australian Shepherd that my parakeets land on as well as a small Pom mix and Shih Tzu’s. As I said, it all depends on training. My Aussie was raised to hunt, but I’ve trained her that as for my birds? Off limits. Do whatever you’re most comfortable with. I know my pets and their limits. It all begins with trust. If you can’t trust them? They will prove you right.

Don’t think I’m lecturing you here, but personally, I’d never want to take that risk. Dogs, for instance, like to play rough, and even if they aren’t hunting the bird they could hurt it unintentionally. The way I see it, if I want to mix budgies with cats or dogs, I’ll raise them together from a very tiny age. It’d be slightly different with a macaw or a cockatoo.

With proper training most pets can handle each other. My parakeets best friend is my cat Tabitha. I also own dogs and fish as well. I used to have chickens and every animal got along with the other & interacted fine. They just need proper training. Even with proper training it’s always helpful to make sure to check in and keep a close eye on them. Even with all my pets getting along for so many years with each other, I still know there is always that possibility something can go wrong.
