Do parakeets have to be let out of their cage?
I am considering getting 2 parakeets. I have read that parakeets should have time outside their cage every day. But, I have 4 cats so I would be nervous about this! I had parakeets years ago and never remember having to let them out, so this is new to me. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Paraketes do not have to be let out and ESPECIALLY not with cats in teh house (if you are unsure) Some birds and cats get raised together so they get along but most do not.
Those who let budgies out are usually one bird familys. With 2 birds, they interact with each other and not with the humans.
It is also best to have the cage hung high in an area where the cats cannot get near them or the cats might think the birds in a cage are a neat game and traumatise the birds to death. Good luck
Yes. You should let them out every day, but since you have cats, you should keep your birds in a room where your cats can’t go in. Keep your cats out of the room and keep the birds in the room.
I wouldn’t get them unless you have a closed door between them and their sworn enemies.
Cats will jump on the cage, bat them around inside the cage, and eat them if they can. They will live in constant agitation and fear. Cats will be constantly prowling, meowing and trying to get to them.
No the makings of a peaceful home.
No, you do not have to let them out, ever. Get a cage large enough for them to flap their whole wing-span out flat. Provide them with toys, and lots of attention to keep them happy. Clip one wing.
They are more FUN if you can hand-tame them and walk around with them, but it is not safe in their situation.
Never go outside with one. They will get eaten by crows or blue jays, or fly into powerlines or trees.
I suggest you clip their wings once you get them.
it will be easier for you to tame them.
when the wings grow again you may let them fly since they’re already tamed.
you must lock all the door and windows when letting they out of the cage, they must not be out unsupervised.
The cats must not be able to come near the cages.
Parakeets can be kept as cage birds, but what’s the fun of that?

would you like to be let out of the house? The answer is yes, so your answer is yes. If you want a bird, only get one. Whether you have cats or not, if you introduce the bird to your cats the proper way, the cats and the bird will be fine. The bird is only a challenge to the cat when it’s in flight. So i sugest you keep the bird clipped and not in flight.
When you take the bird home, allow the bird 3 days to get used to the surroundings first. Once the bird is used to it’s surroundings, by all means start handling the bird. Please do not handle the bird around the cats at this time. Once you can handle the bird, bring the bird right down to the cats face, and allow the bird to peck the each cat in the face. This allows each cat to know that the bird belongs in the house and is not a treat. It also tells the bird that he is not afraid of the cats, and he is a member of the house.
Remember, the bird is only a challenge when the bird is in flight. So keep the bird clipped. You will also see, when the bird is walking around on the floor, the cats will just watch the bird as if to say “ok it’s not flying”? Cat’s actually wait for them to fly and don’t understand why birds are walking and not flying. Mind you, you must keep an eye on your bird when it’s out of it’s cage.
Cats and birds can live together in harmony.
Good Luck!
i never lock my birds up they come in and out of the cage when ever they want to but pls dont have there wings cliped if the cats are in the same room as they have no escape from the cats .if u get two at the same time u will never learn them to come to you as they have each other .so just do one at a time
