How do you keep parakeets quiet during the day?
We have 3 parakeets. Two of them chirp quietly and nicely during the day. One of the little demons squaks so loud you can’t nap or even watch tv. Other than covering the cage, does anyone know how to keep the little demon quieter during the day?

Covering the cage is pretty much it I think. Some birds like to make lots of noise, and there’s nothing that can really be done about it. Other than covering them, I mean. And sometimes even that doesn’t work. You might try moving them to a different part of the house — maybe whatever he’s seeing or hearing is what’s making him squawk. If they are by a window, he may be reacting to birds he sees and hears outside.
Can’t be done. It’s in him, and it’s got to come out.
You didn’t mention how you have your birds housed? Are the two quieter birds a bonded pair? Are all the birds in one cage? If you have three birds in the same cage and two are bonded the third needs it’s own cage to feel safe and secure. If these birds are all housed in their own cages then this particular bird needs more things to keep him busy, make sure you have a great deal of toys for him to interact with, and I am assuming it is a him as males are more vocal.
It’s the bird but obviously the parakeet is not happy if he is screaming so loudly. Parakeets chirp throughout the day but if a bird is screaming so loudly then attention is what the bird needs. My parakeets squawks loudly when the cockatiel or other birds or cats outside disturb them. So, the bird needs to be calmed down. Go up the the bird and sit next to the cage and see if that helps.
Also, the bird could be bored. Get a playpen and let the birds fly around and hang outside. This is essential for a healthy and happy parakeet.
Well what he’s doing is called ‘screaming’ and my bird used to do it. I put him in a room with no TV and he only got attention from being quiet and making the noises I liked. Now he doesn’t scream and makes a cute whistling noise that I taught him. Covering is not a good thing to do unless the BIRD is stressing and your’s isn’t.
I had three until one died of cancer but WOW they do get loud. The only way is to cover them…sorry to say. I know my boyfriend will clap once loud and they stop but a few minutes later they are back at it. Do they have enough toys? maybe get them new chew toys and change the cage around so they have something to work their brain. Once in a while give them treats or broccoli to stuff their beaks with lol. Good luck with them
