How long does it take parakeets to settle down after you bring them home?

I bought 3 parakeets about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I then went back a week later and bought another female and she is very wild. The first three were begininng to settle down until I brought the 4th one home. Now they are all very skiddish. Will they ever settle down? I spend as much time as I can talking to them and singing to them. I have one that will sit on my shoulder and let me walk with her but the minute I sit down she flies off. Will they ever settle down?

There is a period in which most bird people call the “honeymoon period” it’s usually 30 days. birds are always going to be on the go but they’ll settle down when they’re ready.

The thing is you brought so many into the home all at once and didn’t really give any of them much time to get used to you, or their new surroundings. like I said the honeymoon period is usually 30 days and you birds just need time to get used to their new surroundings, new schedules, new people etc.

Sometimes it can take longer than that, it depends on each individual bird. It took our Eclectus only a couple of weeks versus when I got my baby girl, Abby, my African Grey it took her about a month and a half to finally get settled in.

just keep doing what your doing and they’ll come around. your doing just fine. don’t forget fresh fruit and vegi’s everyday :)

Depends on their personality. Some like to be very active, hyper, and skiddish. I brought home 2 parakeets about a month ago. The first one was extremely calm, he still kinda is. The second one is a bit more active. For the most part all they do is sleep and eat. My sister’s two parakeets are very active, curious, and fun. They settle down within about (edit) 1-5 weeks or so. Continue spending a lot of “bonding” time with them. Parakeets are usually loud, playful and messy! :) Have Fun!

They should settle down but its best to have one bird because it there are other birds then that bird will only occosiate with the other birds, but if you only have 1 then it will think of you as it’s flock and want to be with you all the time.
