My heat lamp instructions say do not leave the lamp on no more than 10 minutes and it is not a 100 watt lamp...that would fry the turtle...It says 85 degrees is the maximum and the lamp is a black light...I left mine on for 9 hours and the turtle got a sun burn on his shell. So read your manuel and consult a vet before using one.

the important thing is make sure the lamp isnt to close to the basking area -- All lights in the tank includeing heat lamp should only be on 12 hours a day -- so 12 hours with light and 12 hours dark
