I am considering adopting a pet that is coming from another country, Has anyone ever done this before?

What responsibilities are there once the pet is recieved in the US?

Are there any additional costs once recieved here in the US?

What questions should I be asking to ensure that I will receive my pet once I’ve sent the money?

If you sent money you did not adopt. If you sent money out of the country you just got screwed.

Go to the pound, look at all the animals in our own community that need homes. I hope it would make you reconsider adopting out of the country.

You are wise to be suspisious – there is an established scam adopting dogs from overseas for the cost of shipping. You send money, they dont send dog.
Ask if they will accept you sending shipping costs directally to airline.

Why do you want to go outside of the country and deal with all the hassles? Millions of pets are in shelters here in the US and many waiting to be euthanized because people are irresponsible or they go to other sources for pets….please go locally! You won’t have to go through cuarantine or all the other hassles!

Seriously, do NOT DO IT! It’s a well established scam!! They tell you they have this pet and you just have to pay shipping, they’ll take your money and you never get a pet. DON’T BE TAKEN BY IT!

Unless, you’re getting a pet from a reputable breeder from overseas, in which case it’s not adoption- it’s a sale.
