Is it true that hamsters can eat fruits and veggies?

I heard that a hamster can eat a strawberry, and just recently my friend told me she fed her hamster a carrot. Is this right to feed to hamsters?

I have three parakeets and I really wanna feed them fruits and veggies but when I put it in their cage. They just ignore it like it is a piece of carbage or somethin. I want the best method of making them eat fruits and veggies that works with any fruits and veggies. And what is the best fruit and veggie to feed them.
