What are the procedures for adopting a pet?

I live in Las Vegas and I was wondering mostly about cost for a dog if any and whether these people check your home for “suitability” or whatever? I don’t know anyone who has ever adopted a pet and I’m trying to decide if its worth the effort. Would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Every organization is different and it is usually a lengthy process. Adoption fees can usually run form $100-600 depending on the rescue. If your worried about the adoption fee costs you should NOT be even considering getting a dog. Yearly my dog costs anywhere from $1000-2500/a year (plus having an extra couple thousand on the side incase of emergency vet bills.)

Yes, the adoption process for shelter dogs are worth the effort. They want to ensure you will care for the dog for the rest of it’s life and will be a responsible pet owner and do things such as: feed it, let it run and be a dog, you have a suitable home/enviornmrnt, you take it to the vet, and other such procedures.

Getting a dog is no joke, it’s a life-long commitment. I hope you realize that people don’t understand how big a responsibility it is, and that’s why so many dogs end up in shelters….

Please think about your decesion, before you act upon it.
